Challenge 25 Policy – Alcohol Sales

Business name: Bar of Steel
Policy type: Alcohol age verification
Legal age for alcohol purchase: 18+

Bar of Steel operates a strict Challenge 25 policy. Anyone who appears to be under the age of 25 will be asked to provide valid photographic identification before being served alcohol.

Alcohol will only be sold or supplied to customers who are 18 years old or over. If a customer cannot provide acceptable ID when asked, service will be refused.

Acceptable forms of ID

We accept the following forms of identification:

  • A valid passport

  • A valid UK photocard driving licence

  • A valid proof-of-age card bearing the PASS hologram

  • A valid military ID card

ID must be original, in date, and clearly show the customer’s photograph, date of birth, and any relevant security markings. Photocopies, photos of ID on a phone, expired ID, or damaged ID will not be accepted.

Staff responsibilities

All staff serving alcohol will:

  • Check ID for anyone who appears under 25

  • Confirm the customer is aged 18 or over

  • Refuse service if valid ID is not provided

  • Refuse service if the ID appears fake, altered, expired, or does not match the customer

  • Refuse service to anyone attempting to buy alcohol on behalf of someone under 18

  • Record refused sales where required in the refusals log

Refusal of service

Service will be refused when:

  • The customer appears under 25 and cannot provide valid ID

  • The customer is under 18

  • The ID provided is not acceptable

  • The ID appears to be fake, altered, borrowed, or expired

  • The customer is buying alcohol for someone who is, or appears to be, under 18

  • The customer is intoxicated or behaving inappropriately

Staff decisions are final. Abuse, intimidation, or aggressive behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated.

Proxy sales

Bar of Steel will not knowingly sell alcohol to anyone purchasing on behalf of a person under 18. Staff must remain alert to groups where one person provides ID but others appear underage. Where there is concern that alcohol may be passed to someone under 18, service must be refused.

Staff training

All staff involved in alcohol sales will receive training on:

  • Challenge 25 procedures

  • Acceptable forms of ID

  • Recognising fake or borrowed ID

  • Refusing service confidently and safely

  • Preventing proxy sales

  • Recording refusals

Training will be refreshed regularly and records of training will be kept.

Refusals log

All refusals will be recorded in the refusals log, including:

  • Date and time

  • Reason for refusal

  • Description of the incident

  • Staff member involved

The refusals log will be reviewed regularly to support staff compliance and licensing responsibilities.

Customer notice

Bar of Steel displays Challenge 25 signage to make customers aware that proof of age may be required before alcohol is served.

No ID, no sale.

Non-Refundable Deposit Policy

Business name: Bar of Steel
Policy type: Private and business bookings

Bar of Steel may require a non-refundable deposit to secure private bookings, corporate bookings, business events, parties, weddings, and other mobile bar hire services.

A booking is not confirmed until the required deposit has been received and accepted by Bar of Steel.

Deposit requirement

The deposit amount will be confirmed at the time of booking and may vary depending on the type of event, date, location, duration, staffing requirements, and services requested.

Payment of the deposit confirms that the customer accepts this policy and agrees to the booking terms provided.

Non-refundable deposit

Deposits are non-refundable once paid.

This is because the deposit secures the date and may cover administration, planning, staffing arrangements, preparation, stock ordering, travel planning, and the turning away of other potential bookings for the same date.

Changes to bookings

Where possible, Bar of Steel will try to accommodate reasonable changes to a booking, such as changes to event times, venue, guest numbers, or service requirements.

Changes are subject to availability and may result in additional charges.

Cancellation by the customer

If a customer cancels a confirmed booking, the deposit will not be refunded.

Any additional cancellation charges, outstanding balances, or costs already incurred may also be payable depending on the booking agreement.

Cancellation by Bar of Steel

If Bar of Steel has to cancel a booking due to circumstances within our control, the customer will be offered either:

  • an alternative date, subject to availability; or

  • a refund of any deposit paid.

This does not apply where cancellation is caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, venue access issues, unsafe working conditions, licensing restrictions, power failure, emergency situations, or events beyond our control.

Final balance

Any remaining balance must be paid by the date agreed in the booking confirmation. Failure to pay the balance on time may result in the booking being cancelled, and the deposit will remain non-refundable.

Customer acknowledgement

By paying a deposit, the customer acknowledges that the deposit is required to secure the booking and understands that it is non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing by Bar of Steel.
